Surface Sealing – Recommendation for subsequent application

Our surfaces leave the factory without being sealed – as to say “pure and natural”. In order to expand the application possibilities we have explored the potential of sealing our Organoid® natural surfaces. In line with our commitment to naturalness and sustainability we have tested Organoid with natural sealants in collaboration with the company ADLER-Werk Lackfabrik in Schwaz/Austria. The aim of the tests was to increase abrasion and water resistance.

We therefore recommend a selected product for splash guard: ADLER Legno oil

After successful testing, the splash guard product we recommend is ADLER Legno oil. The natural surfaces are supplied untreated. The recommended Legno oil must be applied to the surface after processing and can be purchased directly here in the ADLER webshop. All trade partners are listed here.

The easy-to-use oil for interior surfaces is colourless, has very good penetration properties, a pleasant feel and very good water resistance. The oil is derived from selected vegetable raw materials, Legno oil is food-safe and has a typical aroma of its own, which reduces the fragrance intensity of the Organoid® natural surface.

Legno oil resistance test results

The Organoid® natural surfaces WILDSPITZE light on flax fleece, ALMWIESE, MOOS HELLGRÜN and ROSENBLÜTEN were tested in a test procedure based on ÖNORM 1605-15 in accordance with EN 12720.

After applying two coats of Legno oil, test results confirm good resistance to substances such as cleaning agents, disinfectants, red wine, water, oils, coffee, tea and more. From this test, it can be assumed that comparable Organoid® natural surfaces with raw materials of the same origin and the same properties will have a similar resistance. Applying Legno oil to Organoid® natural surfaces

The oil should be applied twice to the already wallpapered surface. It is important to observe the drying times. By protecting the surface with Legno oil, the materials can also be wiped and cleaned with a damp or wet cloth. The oil can also increase the abrasion resistance of the material.

Recommended application:

  1. 1. Install the Organoid® wallpaper in accordance with the application instructions and drying time.
  2. 2. Apply Legno oil to the installed and dry surface with a roller or brush.
  3. 3. Approx. 24 hours drying time os required.
  4. 4. Apply a second coat of Legno oil to the dried surface.
  5. 5. At least 72 hours drying time after final coat.

The property of the material influences the consumption and yield of the oil. We recommend carrying out a test coating of a suitable size beforehand. The manufacturer’s instructions must be observed when applying the oil. See the technical data sheet for ADLER Legno-Öl 50880 ff: View & download PDF here.

Visual variation after two coats of Legno oil

Legno oil is generally suitable for wallpapers on flax fleece, gold paper and self-adhesive opaque materials from the current collection. Due to the different natural fibres and substrates, the oil protection changes the appearance and colouring. The change in the surfaces of some designs are more subtle while others become darker when the oil is applied twice.

The Organoid® hay decors in premium density show virtually no visual change.
